He was born in Karimkunnam, India and ordained for the Franciscan Order of Friars Minor on April 5, 1994.
Obituary
On 1 September 2023, as Br. Salim Joseph was en route to Boston Logan Airport, he suddenly suffered a heart attack, tragically bringing his 58 years of life’s journey to a shocking and unexpected end.
May 31, 1965 -September 01 , 2023 A Humble and Faithful Shepherd of Jesus Christ, A loving son and A caring brother. In 1985, Fr. Salim made his initial profession of vows, and in April 1994, he was ordained as a priest. Following his ordination, he embarked on a mission to preach the word of God in various countries, including India, Libya, Singapore, England, and the USA. During the years 2004 to 2007, he pursued and successfully earned his Masters and PhD in Philosophy and Ethics at the University of Canterbury in Kent, UK.
In 2018, Fr. Salim joined Holy Name Province (in USA) as a guest priest, having previously served in St. Thomas the Apostle Province in India, specifically in Bangalore, Cochin, Chipilapally, Kozhikode, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
Fr. Salim's assignments within HNP included ministering at Sacred Heart Friary church in Tampa, FL, from 2017 to 2020, followed by his service at Immaculate Conception Church in Durham, NC, from 2020 to 2022. Currently, in 2023, he was assigned as a priest at St. Anthony's Shrine in Boston.
